Ray is best known for being the co-host of the NPR radio show Car Talk with his brother Tom Magliozzi. Ray graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology like his brother Tom. The brothers delivered the commencement speech at MIT in 1999. Ray taught science before he opened a do-it-yourself repair shop named Hacker's Haven with Tom. They were invited to be part of a panel of automotive experts on Boston's National Public Radio affiliate in 1977.
The radio show Car Talk premiered as an independent NPR program in 1987. The brothers won a Peabody Award for Car Talk in 1992.
