Moise Safra is a Brazilian banking businessman who has a net worth of $2.2 billion. Moise Safra is best known as one of the founders of Banco Safra, a local Brazilian bank that is ranked as tenth among the country's largest sector financial institutions in terms of total assets. Born in 1935 in Lebanon to a well-off banking family, Safra was seventeen when his father, Jacob Safra, relocated them to Brazil. There, the Safras started financing letters of credit for trade in Sao Paulo.
Moise Safra and his brothers, Edmond Safra and Joseph Safra also took part of the business and they eventually founded Banco Safra. In 2006, he decided to sell half of his stakes in Banco Safra along with stakes in Safra-owned banks in New York, Luxembourg and other locations, to his brother Joseph for a sum estimated at $2 billion. Moise Safra also made the headlines in 2012 when he purchased an $80-million office building in London. While most recently, he is said to have partnered with Chinese real estate billionaire Zhang Xin in the purchase of a 40% stake in the General Motors Building in Midtown Manhattan.
