Clayton Mathile is an American businessman who has a net worth of $2.7 billion dollars which makes him one of the richest people in Ohio. Born in Portage, Ohio, Clayton Mathile graduated at the top of his fourteen student class at age 16, and went on to attend Ohio Northern University on a basketball scholarship. He began his college career focusing on mechanical engineering, and then shifted his focus to business. After his scholarship fell through, he began working at a gas station to make ends meet. After graduating, he began working as an accountant at a manufacturing plant for General Motors.
This led to seven years working in accounting and related departments for the Campbell's Soup Company. In the early 70s, he made the risky decision to begin working for the newly formed, Iams Food Company, an Ohio-based pet food manufacturer. Under his leadership, the company grew exponentially, and he purchased it from its founders in 1982. He then sold it to Proctor & Gamble in 1999 for $2.3 billion. He distributed $100 million of his profit from the sale among Iams' employees.
