Carlos Rodriguez-Pastor's family fled Peru after a political coup in 1968, since his father served as official of the Peruvian Central Bank at the time. They set up their home in California, where Carlos attended classes at the University of California, Berkeley. Having earned his MBA at Dartmouth, he started working on Wall Street before his family returned to Peru. In 1994, Rodriguez-Pastor's father purchased Banco Internacional del Peru (aka Interbank), but died the following year. Thus, Carlos took over the lead of the bank and invested bank profits in numerous other businesses. It was in 1998, when he founded Nexus Group, a private equity firm based in Panama. While in 2011, he established a holding company that has supermarkets, malls and drugstore called InRetail. The company went public in October 2012, raising $400 million.
