Alexander Mamut is a Russian businessman and investor who has a net worth of $2.3 billion. Born Alexander Leonidovich Mamut on January 29, 1960 in Moscow to a family of lawyers, he abandoned his profession as a lawyer to become an investor and to accumulate an abundant fortune in the process. After he took his LLB degree from the Moscow State University, Mamut started to serve as an advisor to the former Russian government of Boris Yeltsin and became close friend of Yeltsin's daughter Tatyana Dyachenko. Known as "the Yeltsin family banker", he gained notoriety during the Bank of New York money-laundering scandal in the late 1990's. However, he has never earned any charges apart from his connection with the case.

Alexander Mamut first started to amass his fortune as one of the founders of the Imperial bank. Subsequently, he ran MDM-Bank at one point, as well as he served as a major investor in the Troika-Dialog investment bank and Ingosstrakh insurance company. Outside of Russia, he became known for investing in Live Journal through a media company which he co-owns, SUP Fabrik. Today, Mamut's has an extended business portfolio that includes interests in real estate, retail, telecom, construction and oil fields.
