Born November 7, 1966, Mark Gorton is widely known as the creator of LimeWire, a free, peer-to-peer, Java-based program which offers sharing of its library through the DAAP (Digital Audio Access Protocol). LimeWire was subsequently caught up in litigation regarding damages owed by LimeWire to more than a dozen record labels. Gorton is involved in several green lifestyle issues and is particularly keen on those having to do with transportation. In 1999, he founded OpenPlans, a non-profit that developed GeoServer, a collaborative open source project to encourage green urban planning initiatives.

He initially worked as an electrical engineer for a branch of Lockheed Martin then went on to enter the world of fixed-income trading before going out on his own to launch The Lime Group of companies.
