John Kalodner is a retired A&R executive who has a net worth of $50 million. Always interested in music and the music scene, John Kalodner started out as a band photographer, then began managing a record store, and finally became a music critic for the Philadelphia Bulletin. In 1974, he began working in the publicity department at Atlantic Records. He quickly exhibited great instincts for talent, and by 1976, he had become Atlantic's West Coast Director. He brought in such acts as Foreigner, Peter Gabriel, and AC/DC. He then became the Head of A&R at the brand new Geffen Records, and continued to sign groups that would become massively successful. Some of the groups who credit him with at least part of their success, include White Zombie, Aerosmith, Cher, Santana, Chicago, Heart, Billy Joel, REO Speedwagon, and the Black Crowes, among many, many others. He retired in 2006.
