What is Nicky Butt's Net Worth?
Nicky Butt is an English football coach and former football player who has a net worth of $18 million. Nicky Butt is best known for playing for Manchester United and Newcastle United, as well as holding various coaching positions with Manchester United for nine years. He was a popular member of Fergie's Fledglings, a group of talented young players who played under team manager Alex Ferguson.
Early Life
Nicholas Butt, professionally known as Nicky Butt, was born on January 21, 1975 in Gorton, Manchester, England, the son of Terry Butt, who passed away in June 2012 from cancer at the age of 63.
Career Beginnings
Nicky Butt's career began at Manchester United, a professional football club, as part of their youth team. He was considered an essential part of the team until he went professional in 1993. His official debut with Manchester United was in their 1992-1993 season as a substitute; however, his first big break was achieved in the 1994-1995 season when he often covered for player Roy Keane due to Keane's frequent injuries and suspensions.
Butt finally was promoted from substitute to midfielder in 1955 after player Paul Ince left Manchester United for the Football Club Internazionale Milano. Team manager Alex Ferguson named Butt as the midfield successor. At the time, Butt was considered to be a part of Fergie's Fledglings, a group of talented young players under the management of Ferguson.

Playing Career
Nicky Butt performed well throughout his time with Manchester United and was responsible for scoring crucial goals for the team. Once again, he often subbed in for Roy Keane, who was injured for most of the 1997-1998 season. After Keane's reunion with the team, Butt's appearances became limited, and he came up often from the bench instead of starting the lineup, as he did in Keane's absence.
Butt collected many awards, including six Premier League title medals, three FA Cup winner's medals, and a Champions League winner's medal.
In 2004, Butt requested to be transferred from Manchester United. He eventually was signed to Newcastle United by Bobby Robson in July of 2004, where he signed a four-year deal. Butt served as a replacement for player Gary Speed who had transferred to the Bolton Wanderers, another football club. Butt's 2004-2005 season was heavily disturbed by injuries that he sustained, which caused Manchester United to hire a new midfielder, Amdy Faye, in January 2005. Butt was briefly loaned to Birmingham City by Steve Bruce, his manager, and was further pushed behind his other teammates in the ranking. He walked out on Bruce in February of 2006 after finding out that Bruce had placed his son, Alex Bruce, ahead of Butt in the squad. Bruce was later fined for the ordeal, and Butt eventually returned to Newcastle United.
Butt performed favorably in the years to follow and was promoted to permanent club captain in the 2009-2010 season. The club was subsequently promoted to the Premier League and to the Championships, after which Butt announced his retirement plans. His former Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton suggested that Butt should begin coaching. However, they didn't discuss the possibility of Butt specifically coaching with Newcastle.
Butt briefly played for Hong Kong's South China club in 2010 but ultimately left in 2011 to pursue coaching. His highest achievements during his playing career include earning 39 caps for England from 1997 to 2004, competing for the FIFA Cup in 2002, and participating in The 2004 UEFA European Football Championship.

Coaching Career
Nicky Butt returned to Manchester United to coach the club's reserve team in October of 2012 and was subsequently promoted to head of the academy following the departure of Brian McClair in 2016.
In 2019, Manchester United overhauled their staffing, making Butt the head of first-team development to help youth players transition into the professional team. As a result, Nick Cox was promoted to head of the academy, effectively replacing Butt. Butt initially said he enjoyed the position because he liked "helping young players develop — not just as players, but as people," which he stated in an article in the New York Times. He officially left Manchester United in March of 2021 after holding various positions there for over nine years.
Business Attempts
In 2014, Nicky Butt and several other former Manchester United players, including Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and Gary and Paul Neville, agreed to purchase the Salford City Football Club. In September of that year, the group sold a fifty-percent share to Peter Lim, a billionaire stockbroker and investor. Butt was appointed the club's executive chief officer in October of 2022 after Gary Neville had stepped down from the position after eight years. However, in October of 2024, Butt announced he was stepping down from the role of CEO to pursue coaching opportunities.
GAIMIN
In 2021, Nicky Butt announced via Instagram that he had accepted a role as Ambassador and Investor in the new gaming/blockchain company GAIMIN. He explained that the company aims to "enable gamers to generate a passive income from their unused PC processing power… and build metaverse technology into their games."
Personal Life & Arrests
Nicky Butt married Shelley Barlow in 2008. The couple had been in a relationship for a few years before marriage. At about 2 p.m. on April 16, 2019, Butt was arrested for alleged domestic assault against his "estranged wife,'" according to BBC News and the United Kingdom's Daily Mail. Butt was accused of assaulting his wife at their luxury home in the village of Hale, Greater Manchester, and destroying her Apple iPhone. He argued that the phone was thrust into his face and that he accidentally knocked it out of his wife's hand. The case was later discontinued when the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence against Butt. The couple had separated the previous year, and Butt had been renting an apartment while his wife remained at the family home with their two children.
In 2024, Butt was ordered to do 100 hours of volunteer work and was suspended from driving for a year due to breaking a motorcyclist's leg during a car accident. Butt claims that the accident was due to a "lapse of his concentration."
