Eminem has collaborated many times with Nike over the years to produce special sneakers, but this time, he has really outdone himself. 10 pairs of the newest variation of Eminem Air Jordans have sold on eBay for about the same price as a brand new Lamborghini.
Eminem's newest collaboration with Nike resulted in the Eminem x Carhartt x Air Jordan 4's, which were designed by the rapper himself and feature the Shady XV logo to celebrate 15 years of his record label, Shady Records. Only 300 pairs of these sneakers were made, and Eminem's manager Paul Rosenberg claims that out of those, only 10 pairs will ever be made available to the public.
Those 10 pairs brought in a total of $227,552 through eBay auctions. The highest winning bid was $30,100 for a pair of size 9s, while the lowest winning bid was $18,750 for size 7s. Most pairs of these Eminem Air Jordans went for around $22 thousand. The good news, is that neither Nike nor Eminem will be keeping the money they made selling these rare sneakers. All of it will be donated to the Community Music School at Michigan State University, so these auctions were for a good cause.
The idea of sneakers such as Air Jordans selling for lots of money is nothing new. The first Air Jordan collaboration with another brand went for as high as $15 thousand at auction in 2014. In 2011, a charity auction for the Michael J. Fox Foundation brought in about $6 million, and a pair of replica Air Mags worn by Fox in the movie Back to the Future II sold to British rapper Tinie Tempah for $37,500.
A collaboration between Nike and Kanye West (who now works with Adidas), the Red October Yeezy 2, actually sold for an amazing $17 million at one point, and these shoes regularly go for thousands of dollars on eBay. As far as Air Jordans go, the most expensive pair ever sold were Air Jordan 12's that Michael Jordan wore during his storied "flu game," which went for $104 thousand at auction. A pair of Air Jordan 12 OVO's also sold at auction for $100 thousand. The shoes were thrown to a woman during Drake's Extravaganza Night. If you thought that paying $100 for a pair of sneakers was too much, these outrageous shoe prices may make you think twice.
