Britney Spears is just like you and me, y'all. She gets massages and pedicures, buys clothes, has a budget for her hair and makeup, and spoils her dogs. She does all of that to the tune of nearly $11 million a year. That's a lot of sweatpants, mascara, and dog treats!
Maybe that conservatorship isn't such a bad idea after all.
Britney's finances were revealed in court documents that were filed as part of her ongoing conservatorship. As you may remember, she was placed under a conservatorship after her meltdown in 2007. Today all of Britney's net worth and income are controlled by a trust which her father controls. The trust is required to give annual reports to a judge who oversees everything. That's how we know so much (to the penny) about Britney's finances.
While Britney spent $10,956,873.91 in 2016, we don't have to worry about her becoming homeless anytime soon. The "Baby Hit Me One More Time" singer brought home nearly $16 million last year.
Britney's biggest expenses are her massages and beauty. She spent $122,613 on rubdowns, grooming, and nails. She spent $69,668 on her clothing and $24,392 on hair and makeup. She really spoils her dogs, too. She spent $29,852 on her pets.
When it comes down to where Britney spent her money, she really is just like us. She shops at Pottery Barn, Target, and Bed Bath & Beyond as well as the grocery stores Vons, Albertsons, and Ralphs. Her shopping sprees rarely totaled more than a few hundred dollars at a time.
Britney had total property and assets of more than $55 million in 2016. That's a $5 million bump from the year before. That amount does not include the millions the "Toxic" singer has in trusts for her sons Sean and Jayden.
In early 2008, Britney's father Jamie was granted a temporary conservatorship. Britney had been going through a very public bad patch. She shaved her head and attacked a paparazzo's car with an umbrella. She regularly showed up in public (at a gas station!) disheveled and barefoot. You could practically see the Cheetos stains on her tank top
Spears was removed from her home by paramedics after she locked herself in the bathroom with one of her then toddler sons. She was put in the hospital on a 5150 psychiatric hold. The conservatorship allowed Jamie Spears to make decisions regarding his daughter's treatment and daily life. This stabilized Britney's life and career, and the conservatorship remains in place to this day.
The conservatorship is expected to remain in place indefinitely.
