Early Life
Steven Stamkos was born on February 7, 1990, in Markham, Ontario, Canada. He's of Macedonian and Scottish descent. Steven grew up in Unionville, Ontario, and played for the Markham Waxers in the Eastern AAA Hockey League of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA). His talent was evident early on, winning eight consecutive OMHA titles during his minor hockey years. In 2006 he led his team to the OHL Cup victory.

After an impressive, title-winning 2006 season in which he scored 197 points in 66 games, Sarnia Sting picked Stamkos as first overall in the 2006 OHL Draft.
