What is Farkhad Akhmedov's Net Worth?
Farkhad Akhmedov is an Azerbaijani-Russian businessman who has a net worth of $1.4 billion. Akhmedov entered billionaire rankings in 2012 after he sold his 49% of Nortgas, a Siberian oil and gas company, to Novatek, a Gazprom rival. He closed the deal as a parting shot to a long-running feud with the natural gas giant. It all started in 1993, when Akhmedov started to build up shares in Northgas, an oil & gas company in Siberia, which is considered to be one of the largest gas reserves in the world. It all went well until 2005, when under the threat of losing his license, the company had no other choice but to agree to give Gazprom 51% of his shares. Northgas aside, Farkhad Akhmedov still owns AzNar Natural Products, a juice maker in Azerbaijan.
Akhmedov was only fifteen when he fled Azerbaijan to Moscow and later became the first Azeri to move to London in 1980. There, he made his business beginning, before eventually starting to sell machinery to oil and gas companies and later moving into production himself. From that point on he has continually pursued business and philanthropic interests in both Azerbaijan and Russia. He also dabbled in politics, serving as the first Azerbaijani-Russian senator in history to represent the Krasnodar region to the Russian Federation Council.
