Early Life

Will Poulter was born William Jack Poulter on January 28, 1993, in Hammersmith, London, England. His father, Neil, is Professor of Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine at Imperial College London, and his mother, Caroline, grew up in Kenya and was formerly a nurse. Will attended Harrodian School, where he struggled with his studies as a result of developmental coordination disorder and dyslexia. In a 2013 interview with "The Independent," Poulter stated, "It felt like it didn't matter how hard I tried, I wasn't getting anywhere. That's the most demoralising thing, as a kid. And to find something like drama, which I loved so much… it gave me a sense of purpose." In 2012, Will enrolled at the University of Bristol to study drama, but he left after a year to concentrate on acting full-time. Poulter has three siblings, and his two sisters are nurses.

Career

Will made his film debut in 2007's "Son of Rambow," which earned him nominations from the British Independent Film Awards, London Critics Circle Film Awards, and Young Artist Awards. He appeared on the television series "Comedy: Shuffle" (2007), "Comedy Lab" (2008), and "Lead Balloon" (2008), and in 2009, he joined the cast of "School of Comedy." In 2010, Poulter appeared in the pilot for the BBC Three series "The Fades" and played Eustace Scrubb in "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," which grossed $415 million at the box office. He appeared in the 2012 film "Wild Bill," and in 2013, he co-starred with Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, and Emma Roberts in the comedy "We're the Millers," which earned him a BAFTA Rising Star Award. In 2014, Will appeared in the films "Plastic" and "Glassland" and played Gally in "The Maze Runner," which brought in $348.3 million at the box office. He reprised his role in 2018's "Maze Runner: The Death Cure," which was also a hit, earning $288.2 million. He was cast as Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's "It," but he dropped out because it was scheduled to film at the same time as "Detroit." Poulter appeared in the 2019 horror movie "Midsommar," and in 2021, he starred in the musical heist film "The Score" and guest-starred in the "Chapter 2: South Carolina" episode of the Amazon Prime Video series "The Underground Railroad." Personal Life

Will is a fan of London's Arsenal Football Club, and he attended the FA Cup finals in 2014 and 2015. Poulter has said that he has "pretty major social anxiety," stating, "It wasn't until I just spoke to a buddy of mine who deals in anxiety that I realized I do, which is nothing I'm ashamed of whatsoever. I find now that in between roles I'm just trying to be comfortable with who I am and trying to establish who Will is, without that sounding sort of really pretentious. Otherwise I just find myself psychologically recovering from one role before I have to psychologically prepare for the next, and that's quite an unstable and unhealthy way to live." In a November 2021 interview with E!, he revealed that he "really struggled with [his] mental health like many people did throughout the pandemic."
