What is John Whittaker's Net Worth?
John Whittaker is a British real estate mogul who has a net worth of $2.4 billion. Born on March 14, 1942, John Whittaker earned his wealth as the Chairman of the Peel Group, a private diverse company. After graduating from Ampleforth College and considering becoming a priest, he finally decided to join the family business, Peel Milles. During the 80s, the media-shy entrepreneur fought a fierce battle to get the Manchester Ship Canal Company, which was later transformed into the Trafford Centre, soon-to-became one of Britain's eminent buildings. In 2011, Whittaker sold the Trafford Centre to Capital Shopping Centers in return for one-fourth of the shares of the group.
Two years later, serving as group's Deputy Chairman, he renamed the group into Intu Properties, hoping to create a stronger brand. In addition to his Peel Group, he holds approximately 30% shares of Pinewood Shepperton, the well-known Britain's film studio where Harry Potter and James Bond movies were filmed. Also, the Group owns MediaCityUK, a Salford's massive development that serves as official headquarter of BBC. Whittaker is a great supporter of Sparks, a children's medical research charity, and recently, he has given a donation worth $1.5 million to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Now, Whittaker lives quietly on his private estate, Billown Mansion, on the Isle of Man, an independent British dependency in the Irish Sea.
