Dean Norris is an American actor who has a net worth of $3 million. Dean Norris is best known for playing the role of Hank Schrader on the AMC series "Breaking Bad." He appeared in 51 episodes of the series (out of 62) between 2008 and 2013. He also reprised the role in the spin-off "Better Call Saul." Outside of the "Breaking Bad" universe, Dean has appeared in dozens of movies and television shows in a career that dates back to the early 1980s.

Early Life

Dean Norris was born on April 8, 1963, in South Bend, Indiana. He attended Clay High School and graduated in 1981 as the class valedictorian. While in high school, he was a member of the award-winning student-produced comedy show "Beyond Our Control." He then enrolled at Harvard College, where he studied the interdisciplinary concentration of Social Studies. He was also a member of Hasty Pudding Theatricals. He graduated from Harvard in 1985. After completing his studies at Harvard, he earned his diploma from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1987.

Career

While on "Beyond Our Control," Norris appeared in 13 episodes of the program in 1981. After graduating from Harvard, he appeared in the film "Blind Alleys" in 1985. In 1987, he appeared in an episode of "The Equalizer." The following year, in 1988, he appeared in "Leap of Faith" and "Police Story: Gladiator School." He then had a role in "Beauty in the Beast" in 1989. The same year, he appeared in three films: "Police Academy 6: City Under Siege," "Disorganized Crime," and "Lethal Weapon 2." In 1990, he appeared in six films, including "Montana," "When You Remember Me," "Hard to Kill," and "Total Recall," among others.

Throughout the 1990s, Norris appeared in a number of films, including "Playmaker," "The Last Seduction," "Money Train," "Starship Troopers," "The Negotiator," and "Sonic Impact," among others. His television career was also active throughout this time. Dean had roles in "Secrets," "Homefront," "NYPD Blue," "Married…with Children," "Fallen Angels," "Murder One," "Dark Skies," "Seduced by Madness," "After Jimmy," "V.I.P.," "ER," "Walker, Texas Ranger," and "Pensacola: Wings of Gold."

In the early to mid-2000s, Norris continued appearing in films and television series. He appeared in "The One," "American Gun," "Little Miss Sunshine," "The Heartbreak Kid," and "How Do You Know." He also appeared in four episodes of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" throughout the 2000s, as well as episodes of "Medium," "Without a Trace," "Medical Investigation," "Boston Legal," "LAX," "The West Wing," "Cold Case," "Nip/Tuck," and "Justice."

"Breaking Bad"

In 2008, Norris booked his most prominent role to date as DEA Agent Hank Schrader in the series "Breaking Bad" which starred Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. Dean appeared in 51 episodes of the award-winning series throughout its on-air run. The final season of the show aired in 2013. His performance on the show received critical acclaim. In 2011, Norris received a nomination at the Saturn Awards in the Best Supporting Actor on Television category. In 2012 and 2013, he received collective nominations in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The cast won the award in 2013.

While on "Breaking Bad," Norris continued appearing in other television shows. He had roles in "True Blood," "The Cleaner," "Criminal Minds," "The Glades," "Lie to Me," "Dark Blue," "The Good Guys," "Body of Proof," "Key & Peele," and "Whitney," among others. He also appeared in the films "Prom," "The Counselor," and "The Frozen Ground."

After "Breaking Bad" ended, Norris landed a main role in the series "Under the Dome." He played James "Big Jim" Rennie, and he appeared in 39 episodes of the series between 2013 and 2015. For his performance, he received a nomination at the Saturn Awards in the Best Supporting Actor on Television category.

During the latter half of the 2010s, he appeared in the films "Secret in Their Eyes," "Fist Fight," "The Book of Henry," "Beirut," "The Hustle," and "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," among others. In 2017, he booked another main role in the series "Claws" as Uncle Daddy. He appeared in 30 episodes of the show between 2017 and 2022. He also appeared in the series "Scandal" in five episodes between 2017 and 2018.

In 2020, Norris reprised the role of Agent Hank Schrader in the "Breaking Bad" prequel "Better Call Saul." He appeared in the show's fifth season. The same year, he appeared in "Superstore." He booked a main character role in "United States of Al" in 2021, as well as in the series "Nova Vita."

Personal Life

Norris married his wife, Bridget, in 2001. She worked as an entertainment attorney when they met. Together, they have had five children and live in Temecula, California. In 2018, the couple opened the Norris Performing Arts Center in Murrieta. In 2019, Dean helped launch Schraderbrau, Hank Schrader's in-universe home-brewed craft beer, as an official product. In 2022, Norris and his wife purchased The Swing Inn Café, a long-standing restaurant in Old Town, Temecula. They purchased the restaurant for $6 million.

Norris faced some legal trouble in 2017 when a 32-year-old woman in Ohio accused him of sexually assaulting her while in New Orleans. However, in February 2018, the New Orleans police declined to charge him, citing insufficient evidence.

Schraderbrau

On "Breaking Bad," his character was known for making homemade beer that he called Schraderbrau. In 2019, Dean was involved in the launch of a real-life beer named Schraderbrau.
