Early Life

Smart was born on April 6, 1987, in Anaheim, California, to parents Shawna Lopez and Roy Smart. He grew up with his two older siblings, Bailey and Brandon, and his three younger siblings, Cory, Bree, and Brooklyn. He was very interested in music and the arts as he was growing up and played the saxophone while in high school. He also began dancing during this time and particularly enjoyed the hip-hop dance scene, especially krumping.

Career

When Smart was 19, he entered a dance contest held by choreographer Debbie Allen. His talent was apparent and he ended up winning the contest and taking home the cash prize of $1,000. Soon afterward, he joined the world-renowned dance crew Tommy the Clown. While a member of the group, he performed to sold-out crowds around the world and was particularly well known for his explosive style of krumping.

Due to his success with dance, various recording artists began seeking out Smart as a choreographer and creative director. He has worked with artists like Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas, Beyond, Jennifer Lopez, and Ariana Grande, among others. He would help them plan dances for music videos as well as onstage performances. Beginning in 2010, he appeared as a judge on the popular Univision dance competition show "Mira quién baila." The show aired in both the United States and Mexico.

In addition to dance, Smart also began transitioning into the world of acting, though many of his early roles were in dance-related films and music videos. In 2015, he had a role in the film "Street," in which he played the lead role of Remo Street, a young fighter. Personal Life

Smart currently resides in the Los Angeles area. He enjoys physical fitness and spends much of his free time training in various styles of mixed martial arts and kickboxing. He also enjoys riding motorcycles, snowboarding, and wakeboarding.

During his rise to fame, Smart met Jennifer Lopez while working as a dancer. At the time, she was 42 and he 24. Rumors of their relationship began to simmer in November of 2011, and then the couple was photographed together a few weeks later. They eventually confirmed their relationship, which was the first relationship for Lopez since divorcing her ex-husband, Marc Anthony. Lopez has spoken about how helpful Smart was in helping her recover from the divorce. After dating for around two and a half years, the couple decided to break up in mid-2014. They remained good friends during the initial break-up and did reconcile before splitting for good in 2015. In 2019, Smart gave an interview in which he discussed how his immaturity ultimately helped contribute to the split, saying in hindsight he had probably not been ready to be in a relationship with a woman with children. Smart was later romantically linked with model Breana Tiesi in 2019.
