Vito Rodriguez Rodriguez is a Peruvian billionaire who has a net worth of $1.6 billion. Along with his brother Jorge, Vito founded Jose Rodriguez Banda SA in 1967, a transport company that provided services for mining companies. In 1986, the siblings expanded the company acquiring Gloria SA, Peru's largest producer of canned evaporated milk. The Berckemeyer family of Peru owned 40% of Gloria, while the largest 60% portion belonged to the Swiss multinational company Nestlé.
However, Nestlé gave its shares under Alan García's insistence, then-president of Peru, who believed the company should belong to Peruvians. Since 1991, Gloria became a highly profitable company, having bought numerous other companies. Today, the family holds stakes in food companies that are spread across Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico and Uruguay, among which there are sugar mills in Peru, Ecuador and Argentina.
