What is Mario Brescia Cafferata's Net Worth?

Mario Brescia Cafferata is a Peruvian billionaire who has a net worth of $1.8 billion. Mario Brescia Cafferata has made his way to the narrow circle of Peruvian billionaires, as one of the two leaders of a group of companies known as Grupo Brescia. Mario, along with his brother Pedro, took over control of the company founded by their father Fortunato Brescia Tassano, right after his death in 1951. Since then, the siblings expanded the company into a vast variety of other businesses including agriculture, fish products, cement, paint products, explosives, welding, insurance, banking and mining. It was in 1969, when the Peruvian government took over control of the firm's agriculture companies, while four years later it expropriated its fishery business.

However, the firm eventually reclaimed a foothold in the fish products business with Tecnologica de Alimentos SA, which is now the largest producer of fish meal and fish oil in the world. Furthermore, Grupo Brescia owns mining subsidiary Minsur that has several mines across Peru and Brazil and last year it started operating a gold mine, Pucamarca, along the border between Peru and Chile. Also, the growing group has in its possession Exsa (Peru's largest explosives producer) and Intursa (Peru's largest hotel chain). Now, Mario's sons own 40% of Grupo Brescia, which still remains the main source of their wealth.
