What's the most expensive cocktail you've ever ordered? I live in Los Angeles where a domestic beer in a can cost $14 but I've still never paid more than $20 for a drink. That $20 drink was a special Manhattan made at one of the more upscale hotel bars in Beverly Hills. And to be totally honest, I can't really say that it was worth the extra money. For the most part I'm pretty happy with a $6 Bushmills whiskey on the rocks. How would you feel about a $9000 cocktail that was recently served at The Playboy Club in London?
The most expensive cocktail in the world was created by celebrity mixologist Salvatore Calabrese. Calabrese, who is also known as "The Maestro", has won dozens of awards throughout his bartending career, including "World's Best Drink Selection 2012" and "International Cognac Person of the Year 2009". Calabrese serves drinks at "Salvatore's" in London's prestigious Mayfair district. He spent months conceiving the perfect recipe for what would become not only the world's most expensive cocktail but also the oldest drink in history. His final recipe consists of equal parts 1778 Clos de Griffier Vieux Cognac, 1770 Kummel Liqueur, Dubb Orange Curacao circa 1860 plus two dashes of 100-year-old Angostura Bitters. The combined age of all the liquids is 730 years. The price for a single glass $5500 pounds, which is equal to $9000! Here's a video of Calabrese making the most expensive cocktail in the world:
So if you had the money, would you order a $9000 cocktail? What would you leave as a tip?
