Political Career in Hawaii

Gabbard's political career began in 2002 when, at 21 years old, she was elected to the Hawaii State Legislature, becoming the youngest woman to be elected to a U.S. state legislature. She then served on the Honolulu City Council from 2011 to 2012, focusing on economic development, budgeting, and local transportation.

U.S. Representative

In 2012, Gabbard was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, making her the first Hindu and the first American Samoan elected to Congress. Throughout her tenure, Gabbard was known for her advocacy for veterans, environmental policy, and non-interventionist foreign policy. She served on several committees, including the House Armed Services Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

2020 Presidential Campaign

Gabbard announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in the 2020 election.
