The Beverly Hills estate that was featured in the movie The Godfather has been on and off the market for at least the past 10 years. It is for sale again. This time, the owners are asking $135 million for the mansion. In 2007, the home was listed for $165 million. It was listed again in 2016 for $195 million. It did not sell and was taken off the market.
The mansion is an elaborate, Spanish Colonial style house known as the Beverly House. It appeared in a scene in The Godfather in which one of Vito Corleone's enemies finds the severed head of a horse in his bed. In the real world, the home was at one point owned by William Randolph Hearst. Later, it was the home of actress Marion Davies. John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline spent a portion of their honeymoon at the estate.
The estate currently belongs to Leonard Ross. He is an attorney and real estate investor. He renovated the Beverly House in the mid 1990s and has used the house primarily as a space he rents out for events. Ross tried to refinance the property in 2016 for $40 million by using the crowdfunding site StartEngine. His attempt was not successful.
The property has six structures on it that have a total of 50,000 square feet. The Hearst house dates back to 1927. There is also a separate seven bedroom house on the property. The entire estate has more than 20 bedrooms, a huge swimming pool, lighted tennis court, two screening rooms, a commercial kitchen, and terraces that can seat 400 or more for dinner.
Want to own a piece of history? It will cost you a cool $135 million. Although, who knows, Ross has been trying to unload the property for so long, you might get a deal!
