He is been called the Drift King and has helped to popularize drifting as a motorsport. Tsuchiya is also known for "Tōge mountain pass driving.
Keiichi is famous for driving a Toyota AR86 Sprinter Trueno car. Tsuchiya is also a consultant for the comic book and manga Initial D which features the character Takumi Fujiwara which is modeled after him. He competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1994 to 2000, finishing in 2nd place in 1999. Tsuchiya competed for Team Kunimitsu Honda, Toyota Team Europe, Team Lark McLaren, and TV Asahi Team Dragon.
