Early Life and Education
Tracy Pollan was born on June 22, 1960 on Long Island, New York to Jewish parents Corky and Stephen. She has an older brother named Michael who became a prominent author, journalist, and professor, as well as two sisters. As a teenager, Pollan attended Syosset High School and the Dalton School. She went on to study acting at the HB Studio and the Lee Strasberg Institute.
Television Career
Pollan began her television career appearing in a string of made-for-TV movies in the early 1980s. They included "For Lovers Only," "Sessions," "Trackdown: Finding the Goodbar Killer," and "The Baron and the Kid." Pollan landed her breakout role in 1985 when she began playing Ellen Reed, the love interest of Michael J. Fox's main character Alex, on the NBC sitcom "Family Ties." She played the character in the show's fourth season, and later appeared as Ellen for the two-part finale of the fifth season in 1987. Pollan's other credits in the late 1980s included the television films "The Abduction of Kari Swenson" and "A Special Friendship." Kicking off the 1990s, she portrayed Kathleen Kennedy in the ABC miniseries "The Kennedys of Massachusetts." After that, Pollan starred opposite D.W. Moffett in the NBC television film "Fine Things," based on the novel by Danielle Steel. She appeared in more television films over the following years, including 1993's "Dying to Love You" and 1994's "Children of the Dark." Later in the decade, Pollan played Renee Miller in two episodes of the ABC sitcom "Spin City." She also starred as the titular character in the failed pilot "Anna Says."

Film Career
Pollan made her big-screen debut with a supporting role in John Sayles's 1983 film "Baby It's You," starring Rosanna Arquette and Vincent Spano. Four years after that, she played college cheerleader Mary Daley in the drama "Promised Land," starring Kiefer Sutherland and Meg Ryan. Pollan subsequently appeared in another film with Sutherland, 1988's "Bright Lights, Big City." The film also starred her "Family Ties" costar Michael J. Fox. Pollan didn't appear on the big screen again until 1992, when she played the antagonistic Mara in Sidney Lumet's crime drama "A Stranger Among Us."
Stage Career
In addition to her screen credits, Pollan has done some acting on stage. She played Peggy in the off-Broadway production "Album" from 1980 to 1981, and in 1985 made her Broadway debut in a production of the play "Pack of Lies." Later, in 1992, Pollan acted on Broadway in Neil Simon's new play "Jake's Women."

In 2014, Pollan published the cookbook "The Pollan Family Table" with her sisters and mother. The book contains family recipes, kitchen tips, and cooking methods. The foreword was written by Pollan's brother Michael.
Personal Life
In the summer of 1988, Pollan married actor Michael J. Fox, with whom she had acted on the television sitcom "Family Ties" and in the film "Bright Lights, Big City." Together, they have four children: a son named Sam, a daughter named Esmé, and twin daughters named Aquinnah and Schuyler. The couple lives in Manhattan.
Real Estate
Michael and Tracy lives primarily in Manhattan, but maintain an additional home in Quogue, New York out in the Hamptons which they purchased in October 2007 for $6.3 million.
In 1997 Michael and Tracy custom-built a 5,000 square-foot home in on 72-acres in Sharon, Connecticut. They listed the home for sale in 2016 for $4.25 million, ultimately accepting $3.9 million in October, 2017.
