Michael Lynch is a British entrepreneur who has a net worth of $1 billion. He is the co-founder of Autonomy Corporation and the founder of Invoke Capital; he is also a member of the Council for Science and Technology which advises the UK government. His entrepreneurship is associated with Silicon Fen. Lynch is known for his ability to apply techniques from signal processing and pattern recognition to unstructured information, and his company, Autonomy, is a leader in this area. In October 2011, Autonomy was sold to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion.
A year after selling the firm to Hewlett-Packard, Hewlett-Packard claimed that Autonomy used accounting tricks to artificially inflate its value prior to the sale, but Lynch has always denied the allegations. In 2015, the UK Serious Fraud Office closed it's inquiry after two years, but Hewlett-Packard is still trying to settle several shareholder class-action suits over the acquisition, and Hewlett-Packard intends to sue Lynch. In addition to developing Autonomy, Lynch is also on the advisory board of Blinkx, a video-search engine that spun from Autonomy, and he also runs Invoke Capital, a $1 billion venture capital firm that best on European technology startups. Lynch has a doctorate from Cambridge University and currently lives in Suffolk County in the United Kingdom.
