Dock Ellis was an American professional baseball player who had a net worth of $100 thousand. Dock Ellis was born in Los Angeles, California in March 1945 and passed away in December 2008. Ellis was a pitcher who threw right handed and was a switch hitter. He attended Gardena High School and Los Angeles Harbor College. Ellis made his Major League Baseball debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1968 and he played for the team until 1975. He then played for the New York Yankees from 1976 to 1977, the Oakland Athletics in 1977, the Texas Rangers from 1977 to 1979, and the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates in 1979. During his MLB career Ellis won a World Series championship with the Pirates in 1971.
He was also named an All-Star in 1971. Ellis was named the American League Comeback Player of the Year in 1976. In June 1970 he threw a no-hitter and later he claimed that he was under the influence of LSD during the game. He later admitted to having a substance abuse problem and to have never pitched without the use of drugs. Ellis was also known for being outspoken and for being an advocate for African Americans. After going through treatment to get clean he counseled drug addicts in prisons and treatment centers. Dock Ellis passed away of a liver ailment on December 19, 2008 at the age of 63.
