What Was Bob Saget's Net Worth and Salary?

Bob Saget was an American stand-up comedian, actor, and television host who had a net worth of $50 million at the time of his death in 2022. Bob Saget first rose to prominence as a stand-up comedian in the 1980s and was known for his very risqué humor. He became more family-friendly when he joined the cast of the hit family show "Full House." Bob appeared in all 192 of the show's episodes. He was also well-known as the host of "America's Funniest Home Videos" from 1989 to 1997. Saget hosted seasons one through eight of the show. He also provided the narrator's voice in all 208 episodes of the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother." Tragically, Bob died on January 9, 2022, at the age of 65.

Early Life

Robert Lane Saget, better known as Bob, was born on May 17, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His family is Jewish. His father, Benjamin, was a supermarket executive, and his mother, Rosalyn (aka "Dolly"), was a hospital administrator. Bob spent some time in California as a child before moving back to Philadelphia, where he attended Abington Senior High School. After graduating high school in 1975, he continued his education at Temple University, where he studied film. His student project "Through Adam's Eyes," a film about a boy who received reconstructive facial surgery, was honored with an award of merit in the Student Academy Awards. He graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978.

Career

Even though he started his career in stand-up comedy, touring aggressively throughout the country, Saget first tasted success once he appeared on TV. His first talk show appearance was on "The Merv Griffin Show" in 1981. He then had a brief stint as a member of "The Morning Program" on CBS in early 1987, but it was his casting as Danny Tanner on the show "Full House" that really made him a household name. The series was very popular and was consistently ranked in the Nielsen Top 30 from its third season onward. It has continued to gain popularity through syndicated reruns. On it, Saget played Danny Tanner, a widower raising his three daughters with the help of his brother-in-law, Jesse, and his best friend, Joey. The show ran from 1987 to 1995 and had a total of eight seasons and 192 episodes.

In 1989, Saget also began working as the host of the show "America's Funniest Home Videos" ("AFV"), a role he continued to hold until 1997. During the early 1990s, while both shows were airing, he worked simultaneously on "Full House" and "AFV." In 1996, Saget directed the ABC television movie "For Hope." It was inspired by the life story of his sister, Gay Saget, who had passed away three years earlier from scleroderma. Bob went on to direct his first feature film in 1998, "Dirty Work," starring Norm Macdonald and Artie Lange. It was released to widely negative reviews and did not perform well at the box office. However, since then, it has become a cult favorite, possibly due to Lange's later popularity on "The Howard Stern Show." From October 2001 to May 2002, Saget starred in the short-lived sitcom on The WB, "Raising Dad," alongside Kat Dennings, Brie Larson, and Jerry Adler.

Starting in 2005, Saget contributed his voice to the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother." He was the voice of the future Ted Mosby and narrated the series until its end in 2014. From 2006 to 2008, he hosted the NBC game show "1 vs. 100." His 2007 HBO comedy special "That Ain't Right" was dedicated to his father, who had passed away earlier that year due to complications from congestive heart failure. Also in 2007, Saget wrote, directed, and starred in the direct-to-DVD film "Farce of the Penguins," which was a parody of the 2005 nature documentary "March of the Penguins." During this same general period in his career, from 2005 to 2010, Bob appeared in four episodes of the HBO series "Entourage," playing a parody of himself. In June 2022, he appeared posthumously on an episode of "Welcome Home Nikki Glaser?" on the E! Network.

Other projects Saget has been involved in include the short-lived 2009 ABC sitcom "Surviving Suburbia," the 2010 A&E series "Strange Days," and a guest-starring role in the series "Grandfathered" (2015; 2016), which starred and was produced by his old "Full House" co-star John Stamos.

Other Projects

In addition to his various pursuits in television and film, Saget was also a published author. His book "Dirty Daddy" was released in 2014. In it, he wrote about his life, career, comedy, and various experiences. He supported the book's release with a stand-up tour in Australia (his first there) called "Bob Saget Live: The Dirty Daddy Tour." The tour featured shows in the cities of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth. In April 2020, he launched his podcast "Bob Saget's Here For You" with Studio71.

Personal Life

Saget was married to Sherri Kramer from May 1982 to November 1997. They had three daughters together.

In 2018, he married Kelly Rizzo. They remained married until his death in January 2022.

Bob was a board member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation and was very active in raising funds and awareness for the disease, which his sister suffered from.

On January 9, 2022, Saget was found dead in his room at a Ritz-Carlton hotel near Williamsburg, Florida, after having performed a set on his stand-up tour just the evening before. The autopsy report found that Bob had suffered blunt head trauma from an accidental blow to the back of his head, most likely from a fall, and he passed away from the resulting injuries in his sleep.

Real Estate

In September 1990, Bob and his then-wife Sherri paid $2.5 million for a home in LA's Pacific Palisades neighborhood. That's the same as spending a little over $5 million in today's dollars.

In June 2003, he paid $2.9 million for a recently renovated home in Los Angeles. In June 2022, Bob's widow, Kelly Rizzo, put this home on the market for $7.675 million. The property sold in an off-market deal in early 2023 for $5.4 million.
