Early Life

Abby Elliott was born Abigail Elliott on June 16, 1987, in New York City. She is the daughter of actor and comedian Chris Elliott and talent coordinator Paula Niedert, and her younger sister, Bridey, is also an actress. Chris was a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" during season 20 in the mid-1990s, and his father, Bob Elliott, who was part of the comedy duo Bob & Ray, appeared on the show's Christmas episode during the 1978–1979 season. Abby grew up in Wilton, Connecticut, and she performed in school plays and musicals while attending Immaculate High School. She graduated from high school in 2005, then she enrolled at NYC's Marymount Manhattan College. Elliott dropped out during her first semester of college.

Career

After taking comedy classes at the famous Groundlings school in Los Angeles, Abby began training at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, where she performed in sketch comedy shows. In 2006, she appeared in the pilots for her father's shows "Chrissy: Plain & Simple" and "You've Reached the Elliotts." She was a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" from 2008 to 2012. During her time on "SNL," Abby did impressions of celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry, Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Anna Faris, Joan Cusack, Khloe Kardashian, Rachel Maddow, Marilyn Monroe, Sarah McLachlan, Leah Remini, Kesha, and Zooey Deschanel. Elliott's first film was 2011's "No Strings Attached," and that year she also appeared in the short film "My Anime Girlfriend" and the improvised comedy film "High Road." Personal Life

Abby met Fred Armisen when she joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live," and they started dating in 2010. Elliott and Armisen split up in September 2011. Abby later began a relationship with TV writer Bill Kennedy, who wrote the film "Sex Ed" (which Elliott starred in) and has written for the television series "House of Cards," "The Morning Show," and "Tell Me Lies." The couple married on September 3, 2016, and they have welcomed daughter Edith and son Billy together. Abby spoke to "The Knot" about Bill's proposal, revealing that he arranged to have their apartment filled with flowers, and after he proposed to her there, he took her to their favorite restaurant, the Beatrice Inn. Elliott said that when they arrived at the restaurant, "Both of our parents were sitting at the table, and my sister was there too. It was really, really lovely."

Awards and Nominations

In 2024, Abby earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television and a Gold Derby Award nomination for Comedy Supporting Actress for "The Bear."
