Joseph W. Sarno was an American film director and screenwriter who had a net worth of $5 million. Joseph W. Sarno was born in March 1921 and passed away in April 2010. Sarno resided in New York City and is known for being a pioneer of the proto-pornographic sexploitation film genre of the 1960s. He wrote and directed around 75 theatrically released film films in the genres of sexploitation, softcore, and hardcore. His first adult oriented film was Nude in Charcoal in 1961 and his best known films include Sin in the Suburbs, Flesh and Lace, Moonlighting Wives, and The Swap and How They Make It.
In 1968 his work become more explicit and he ventured into the emerging soft core genre. His 1968 film Inga was one of the first X-rated movies released in the U.S. He started in the hardcore genre in 1973 with the film Sleepy Head. Sarno directed under pseudonyms because he was reluctant to be associated with the genre. His last released was the film Suburban Secrets in 2004. A Swedish documentary about Joseph and his wife Peggy was released in 2013. Joseph W. Sarno passed away on April 26, 2010 at the age of 89.
