Earl Anthony was an American professional bowler who had a net worth of $5 million. Earl Anthony was born in Tacoma, Washington in April 1938 and passed away in August 2001. Anthony was a left-handed bowler who won 41 titles and six Bowler of the Year Awards on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour. In 2008 his title count was amended to 43 when the PBC chose to also include the ABC Masters titles that were earned by a PBA member as PBA Tour titles. Anthony and Dick Weber have widely been credited for increasing bowling's popularity in the United States. Anthony was the first bowler to earn more than $100,000 in a season in 1975 and became the first to reach $1 million in lifetime PBA earnings in 1982.
He tied Pete Weber with 10 professional major titles which consisted of six PBA National Championships, two ABC Masters titles, and two Firestone Tournament of Champions titles. He was dubbed "Square Earl" by fellow pro bowlers and often appeared in a crew-cut and plastic-frame eyewear. Earl was voted into the PBA Hall of Fame and the ABC Hall of Fame. He was also a minor league baseball pitcher with the Baltimore Orioles and an excellent golfer. Earl Anthony passed away on August 14, 2001 at the age of 63.
