He was a midfielder who started his senior career with Aurrera in 1930. Luis also played for Real Espana on three occasions, Racing Santander, Club America, Corrales, Velez Sarsfield, Marte, and Veracruz.. De la Fuente also represented Mexico in international competition from 1934 to 1950 where he scored 7 goals in 9 appearances. Luis was signed during exhibition games in Mexico by Atletico Corrales.
He won two Primera Division de Mexico championships with CD Veracruz in 1945 and 1949.
