Warren Buffet isn't a guy who loses very often. It's hard to lose when you're worth billions upon billions of dollars. Sure, sometimes your new custom 747 private jet is delayed a few weeks, but generally speaking you don't come up on the losing side of anything… pretty much ever. Well, today is one of those rare days that Warren Buffett is feeling a slight tinge of defeat…
Earlier today, Jeff Bezos passed Mr. Buffett in terms of personal net worth to become the new third richest person on the planet. At Amazon's current stock price, Bezos' net worth just topped $65.1 billion which barely squeaks above Warren's $65 billion.
It's the highest Jeff Bezos has ever appeared on the list of the richest people on the planet. The only people richer than the Amazon founder are Zara founder Amancio Ortega who is worth $70 billion and Bill Gates who is worth $78 billion.
It should also be noted that many wealth-tracking publications, including CelebrityNetWorth, peg Vladimir Putin's net worth at around $70 billion. But his wealth isn't exactly 100% official. If you include put in Putin (get it?) at $70 billion, then Bezos is the fourth richest person on the planet.
Either way, Jeff's net worth has increased at an absolutely astonishing pace over the last two years ago. If you jumped back two years, Jeff was barely one of the top 30 richest people on the planet with a net worth of $30 billion. Two years ago Amazon's stock price hovered around $350. Today a single share of AMZN trades at $750 and the company as a whole has a market cap of $352 billion.
